ADHD Coaching for Adults Who Struggle to Start
You know what needs to be done.
You’ve thought about it.
You care about the outcome.
But when it’s time to begin, something inside resists.
Many adults with ADHD describe the same frustrating experience:
The document stays blank.
The task feels heavier than it should.
You avoid starting altogether.
This can lead to cycles of pressure, self-criticism, and overwhelm.
But in many cases, the challenge is not a lack of motivation.
It’s that starting has become difficult for your brain to access.
ADHD coaching helps you understand why that happens - and how to create conditions where action becomes possible again.
Why Starting Feels So Difficult with ADHD
For many adults with ADHD, starting problems are connected to a combination of factors:
emotional pressure around the task
uncertainty about where to begin
cognitive overload
decision fatigue
avoidance patterns that develop over time
When these pressures build, the brain often shifts into protection mode.
That can make it feel almost impossible to begin, even when the task matters.
Coaching helps you understand these patterns and develop ways to work with them rather than against them.
How ADHD Coaching Helps
In our coaching sessions, we explore what is happening beneath the surface of your starting struggles.
Together we focus on:
understanding the patterns that make tasks feel heavy
identifying where access to action disappears
reducing the internal pressure around starting
creating clearer and more manageable entry points into tasks
developing systems that support follow-through
The goal isn’t to force productivity.
It’s to make action feel more accessible and sustainable.
My Coaching Lens
In my work, I use a simple framework:
Regulation → Access → Direction
First we stabilise the emotional and cognitive load that makes tasks feel overwhelming.
Then we restore access to the brain’s planning and initiation systems.
Finally, we create clear starting points that allow action to move forward.
When these elements align, starting becomes lighter and momentum can begin to build.
Who ADHD Coaching Is For
This coaching is designed for adults who:
know what they need to do but struggle to begin
feel stuck in cycles of procrastination or avoidance
are overwhelmed by tasks that seem manageable for others
want practical support that respects how ADHD brains work
are ready to approach change with curiosity rather than self-criticism
What Coaching Sessions Are Like
Sessions are thoughtful, collaborative conversations focused on your real-life challenges.
Each session lasts 45 minutes and takes place online.
During our work together we might explore:
situations where you repeatedly get stuck
the internal experience of starting tasks
patterns that trigger avoidance or overwhelm
small shifts that help you move forward
There’s no pressure to perform or “get it right.”
The focus is on understanding your experience and building approaches that genuinely work for you.

Coaching Is Not
ADHD coaching is not therapy, medical treatment, or a replacement for clinical care.
Instead, it complements other supports by helping you apply insight to everyday life.
Coaching focuses on practical change, awareness, and forward movement.
Start with a Complimentary Call
If you’re curious about ADHD coaching, the best place to begin is with a complimentary conversation.
During this call we will:
talk about what you’re currently struggling with
explore what makes starting difficult right now
discuss whether coaching would be helpful for you
There is no obligation - just a chance to see if the work feels like a good fit.
Small shift. Different Direction.
That’s the Delta.
Collaboration for Success!
The Australasian ADHD Professionals Association (AADPA) recommends a multimodal treatment and support approach for managing the symptoms of ADHD. This includes a combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches such as stimulant medication, therapy, lifestyle changes, and ADHD coaching.
While medication helps with treating the symptoms of ADHD, coaching focuses on strengths-based skill building to move an individual forward, towards their goals. It answers the ‘how’ of the change process.
Through collaborative care, people with ADHD get the best treatment outcomes.
We work in partnership with the specialists at AOA Clinic, so reach out to them if looking for diagnosis and pharmacological treatment.
